Tom Maiden's Project Pages - PAGE 2 - The Steel Monster
Project 1 Steel Monster The Arm Mini-Sumo Aluminum Monster Level64 ... ...
The STEEL MONSTER.
I call it a monster, because it is HEAVY.
Soon to be replaced by the ALUMINUM MONSTER!
One inch steel tubing with 1/4 inch aluminum plate.
Two Go Kart wheels, with 60 tooth sprockets.
Two SILVER BOMBER motors, with 11 tooth sprockets.
Gear ratio = 1:5.45
This Beast is TOO FAST!
I don't want it running into me or my walls.
Parts have been ordered to make two JACK SHAFTS.
The new gear ratio will be 1:11 or 1:14.
I figure that slower is better, Besides
I can always use a little extra torque at the wheels.
The Motor Driver from a Previous project
Two IRF150 MOSFETs for motor current control.
Two Relays for motor direction control.
The MOSFETS and relays are driven at TTL levels.
Easy to interface to a microcontroller,
But I'm planning on connecting it to a PC Motherboard.
I Finally got my Jackshaft parts!
I have to cut the shaft to make two matching Jackshafts, and
cut some holes in the aluminum, to squeeze these parts
between the motor and the wheel, one on each side.
The Steel monster is going to be a Daddy!
The steel is just too darn heavy.
I always wanted to learn how to weld aluminum.
Here is my first test of a new aluminum BRAZING process.
BUTT joint
I wanted to make the monster lighter, but longer
to make room for the jack shaft
.
Inside Corner joint
I still have to make two matching Jackshafts, and
cut some holes in the aluminum plate,
